Call for Participants for Research Study: Erotic Countertransference

erotic countertransference

Jeremy Kelsall, a student on the Advanced Diploma in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy at the Psychosynthesis Trust, seeks participants for their research study on how psychosynthesis therapists understand and work with erotic countertransference

If you are a psychosynthesis therapist who has been practising for seven years or more and have experienced feelings or thoughts of sexual attraction towards a client, then you may be interested in participating in a research study that seeks to enquire into this aspect of clinical practice.

Because of its sensitivity there can be a degree of professional taboo around this subject, and it is my hope through this research to contribute to a more open conversation that might support safe and effective psychosynthesis practice.

My name is Jeremy Kelsall and I am a student of the Advanced Diploma in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy at the Psychosynthesis Trust. My dissertation question asks:

How do psychosynthesis therapists experience, understand and work with erotic countertransference?

The aim of the study is to explore the lived experience of the therapist when attraction appears in the therapeutic relationship and how it informs the work. I am particularly interested in:

  • Your subjective experience of erotic countertransference when it appears in the therapeutic relationship, and how you work with it in the immediacy of the encounter.
  • The meanings you make of it and the models or concepts you might use to help make sense of the experience.
  • How helpful you find the psychosynthesis model in making sense of this aspect of therapeutic experience.
  • How your reflection on and understanding of the experience of erotic countertransference informs your work with your client.

If you think you might be interested in an opportunity to explore and reflect on your experience of erotic countertransference and contribute to this conversation, then please get in touch with me at the email address below and I will provide you with further information.
