A Contemporary Integrative Transpersonal Clinical Diploma in Supervision
Earn a Diploma in Supervision and help guide others on their psychosynthesis journey. This training brings together transpersonal, humanistic and psychodynamic perspectives; challenging and advancing therapeutic practice in a supervision context. The hourglass and the fulcrum is held contextually – there is always an interplay between supervision and the client-therapist relationship.
The Diploma in Supervision training is designed to support the busy professional. Sessions are held online fortnightly on Fridays, as well four additional in-person training weekends.

Who is it for?
This course is designed for qualified Counsellors and Psychotherapists of any modality.
Minimum entry requirements:
- Qualified to at minimum diploma level from a BACP/UKCP recognised course.
- At least three years post qualification experience/1600 clinical practice hours.
- Candidates are approved and selected via interview with the Trust for readiness.
This training will concurrently challenge you to make better use of your own supervision while testing your strengths and challenges as clinicians.

Each experienced clinical supervisors themselves, they showcase their unique areas of passion, interest and expertise and are individually responsible for supporting counsellors and/or psychotherapists in training.

Requirements for completion of the Diploma
Requirements for completion of the Diploma in Supervision
The training leads to a Psychosynthesis Trust Diploma in Supervision on successful completion of all elements:
- 60 hours of supervised practice: 25 of which are completed during the course training. 35 to be completed privately in group or individual supervision (i.e., with supervisors outside of the course).
- Seven hours (minimum) of private individual supervision of supervised practice, with a Trust recommended supervisor (this is not included in the price). This can be a blend of individual, peer, or group supervision.
The minimum ratio is one supervision per five hours of practice as a supervisor.
- Sign-off and report from your clinical supervisor.
- End of Year Skills Practice assessment.
- Two written assignments (one of 3,000 words and another of 7,000 words, each on supervision philosophy and practice) – usually completed within three months of the final training day, with a maximum of two years from the final weekend.
Each component holds a requirement to include current supervision practice examples.
Finding a placement
Finding a placement
The suitability of supervisors and placement needs to be confirmed by the Trust, usually through your Trust approved supervisor.
- Students are responsible for securing a placement or private supervisors – usually this works best to be secured ahead or within the first few weeks of starting the training.
- There may be an opportunity (depending on experience, need and interview), to supervise within the Trust’s Student Placement Service.
- Low-cost supervision will be advertised within our graduate body and website.
The Diploma in Supervision Programme
Programme Outline
The Trust’s integrative approach is informed by the transpersonal approach of psychosynthesis, the developmental insights of a psychodynamic orientation and incorporates a humanistic understanding.
A soul infused training, it provides a rich opportunity to develop key skills using tried and tested theories and contexts, within an experiential framing. Live practice is included during each day of teaching, as an opportunity to test and develop real skills in the moment, which encourages learning through experience to inform practice. The training is rigorously inclusive and supported by seven key supervisors at the Trust. They each sharing their expertise within specific contexts. This is an opportunity to experience seven experienced supervisors and trainers in action.
Module 1: The supervisory relationship
An Overview of the Modules of the Diploma in Supervision in the helping professions and course. It provides an overall map of content which will be visited at greater depth in the later modules.
Welcome, scene setting, contracting and money, the personhood of the supervisor, and considers making the most of supervision from the perspective of the one supervised.
Models of supervision include: An exploration and experience of Hawkins & Shohet’s seven-eyed model of supervision, with introduction to the 8th eye of the transpersonal dimension. Alternative models will look at the interplay of other approaches: the eclectic versus integrative supervision//psychodynamic//analytic//human centred.
Setting the context: This the frame that accounts for all the facts and phenomena relevant to appreciating the full picture of a problem or situation.
The golden thread of intersectionality, in particular, race and heritage, able and mental bodiedness, and sexualities and genders and is introduced as a cross-cutting theme.
Module 2: The Supervisory task
An in-depth reflection and practice of the seven-eyed model Hawkins & Shohet and the interplay of other clinical approaches, including developmental insights of a Psychodynamic orientation from a soulful perspective, with an emphasis on body focus within the process. Evolving personal philosophy on theoretical model and own supervisory practice.
An expansion of the transpersonal context within the 8th-eye, transpersonal approaches, and bi-focal vision as a supervisory opportunity, laying the ground for growth and insight.
Resonance and the imaginal. Holding boundaries within the malleable nature of the process, honouring the client in the supervisory relationship, with an emphasis on somatic awareness and inclusion within the process.
Module 3: Power, organisations, and individuals
Develop key skills in working with dynamics and power in the supervisory relationship, across different organisational settings and contexts in which supervision occurs, for example, training groups of students with assessment elements (required UKCP ration 1:6 ratio for UKCP trainees), groups from varied theoretical backgrounds and ability within organisational settings, and private practice and group supervision.
Complexities of contracting within organisations. Reflect on issues to do with diversity and inequality, and own position.
Explore our own history and experiences of supervision in organisations, identifying advantages/disadvantages.
Working as a training supervisor in developing trainee counsellors/psychotherapist; role competing aspects, the mix of balance of support and challenge.
Module 4: Working with groups and the unconscious
This module provides learning about group facilitation, co-creating, reflective practice and integrating this into group supervision.
Introducing Bion and Foulkes will set the scene for understanding the facilitator as orchestrator or builder. Incorporating Tuckman’s model of group development holds a loose understanding of group life energy from forming to performing and adjourning.
Discovery of groups as opportunity/microcosm to understand of the macrocosm. Identify parallel processes at play within the therapeutic and supervisory setting, transferential and personhood.
Explore creative and pragmatic ways of working with groups and the unconscious, resistances, effective strategies, staying with and allowing processes to emerge, whilst exploring common archetypal group roles.
Module 5: Ethical practice, dilemmas, and shame
This module explores the supervisor’s need to be aware of ethical responsibilities through examples, in the face of complex clinical issues in the therapeutic arena, and the supervisor’s capacity to hold authority for and with the one under supervision.
Developing an understanding of current legislation, protective characteristics & ethics from an organisation specific context (e.g. NHS/IAPT and different services).
Exploring the necessity of working transparently, congruently, developing mutual respect within the supervisory relationship to enable and cultivate an environment which supports the emergence of shame, working with the paradox of enabling and understanding of blocks and transference.
Module 6: Practicum and completion
In this module participants will work live, reflect together, giving and receiving feedback. This recorded session will serve as the basis for a later written reflection.
