Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling
A two-year part-time course ,with the choice to apply for BACP accreditation for accreditation or progress through the Trust to become a psychotherapeutic counsellor registered with UKCP college PCIPC.
Application for the February 2027 intake will open in October 2026.

Becoming a counsellor
Deepen your understanding of theory, skills and practice as you gain a high level of competency as a psychosynthesis counsellor. You will develop a deeper understanding of relevant theoretical frameworks as you grow in your professional identity as a counsellor.
Accreditation
The Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling is Psychosynthesis Trust awarded and accredited by BACP and/or graduates can apply for UKCP registration as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor after 450 suitably supervised clinical hours (in a ratio of 1:6).
This programme aims to support students in their professional development as a counsellor, working at a high level of competency, and prepares students to gain full independent professional status, accreditation and registration.
This course also forms part of the requirement for the 2-Year Advanced Diploma which is accredited by UKCP.
Our training
This professional training is based upon a holistic approach which:
- blends affective and cognitive learning, includes critical analysis, integrating personal experience with a theoretical understanding of psychosynthesis models and principles and coherent relevant theorists
- supports the development of self-actualised individuals and effective professionals
- recognises and appreciates the interdependence of physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth
- enhances awareness and reflection of the unity, difference and diversity of apparent polarities in society, and of the creative role individuals can play within it
- takes a pragmatic approach to learning
The programme
The inner process and development of the student plays a central role, interfaced with the course material. Training consists of an in-depth study of psychosynthesis as a model of the human being and its place within individual, interpersonal, social and global contexts. The programme builds on the Certificate in Psychosynthesis Foundations, using the same methods at a deeper level, focussing on developing as professional.

Programme Structure
The programme is divided into two double modules over two years, with six components per year:
Year 1
Component 1
Identity and Self-Formation: Exploration of the way we form our personality and create identity and pathways in the world, viewed through psychosynthesis as a core model alongside key theorists, and the ways we recognise and diagnose particular disorders in psychological and emotional development.
Component 2
Transformational Processes: Exploration of the process of change involved in psychospiritual development, as experienced and understood through psychosynthesis models of the self and the properties of the mind.
Component 3
Systemic and Social Psychosynthesis: Expanding psychosynthesis models of identity beyond the individual psyche to an understanding of our place in groups and social systems and our relationship to others.
Component 4
Application of Psychosynthesis: Learning to apply the theories, models, techniques and skills of psychosynthesis to practice application, discussion and group work with other students within an ethical framework.
Component 5
Clinical Practice: Gaining practical experience in developing a safe clinical practice within a placement setting, with reflective learning supported through supervision.
Your training supervisor will advise you which sessions are in person and online. Up to half your training supervision could be online. This is put in place to reflect the changing environment that we live and work in.
Component 6
Personal and Professional Development: The psychological, emotional and soul journey towards personal and professional confidence, maturity and relational competence, making use of psychosynthesis as a core model.
Year 2
Component 7
Psychospiritual Pathology: Detailed investigation into psychopathology and trauma as understood within the context of both the lower and higher unconscious and the soul journey.
Component 8
Transformational Processes: Continued exploration of the processes of change involved in personal and global psychospiritual development, as experienced and understood through psychosynthesis models of the self and the properties of the mind.
Component 9
Psychosynthesis in Context: Situating psychosynthesis models and practice within the framework of the multicultural, contemporary theories of human nature, changing society and within the evolution of a diverse yet integrative psychological profession.
Component 10
Application of Psychosynthesis: Continued learning to apply the theories, models, techniques and skills of psychosynthesis to practice situations with other students within an ethical framework.
Component 11
Clinical Practice: The continued gaining of practical experience in developing a safe clinical practice within a placement setting, with reflective learning supported through supervision.
Component 12
Personal and Professional Development: The continued psychological, emotional and soul journey towards personal and professional confidence, maturity and relational competence, making use of psychosynthesis as a core model.
Course Requirements
Private study, written assignments (including two essays and two case studies), individual work with a therapist (80 therapy sessions), 100 clinical placement hours.
Essential Therapist Guidance
The Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling (stage 3) requires a minimum of 40 hours of personal therapy, with a psychosynthesis approved therapist, per year of study.
For stage 4 (Advanced Diploma) you will need 80 hours of personal therapy usually with a UKCP registered psychosynthesis therapist prior to starting and (minimum 40 hours per year of study).
Individual therapy needs to be a minimum of 80% face-to-face (in-person).
Our recommendation is weekly therapy, on the same day & time each week, for 50-60 minute sessions.

Selection criteria is holistic, using all the information available to us, which includes an interview, completion of all previous course requirements, motivation and suitability for the course, commitment, competence and professional potential. Commitment to adherence of BACP and UKCP ethical framework is essential.
