Online workshop: Saturday 24th of June, 10am-5pm

Format: Online, via Zoom with handouts provided before the workshop.

Workshop Purpose:

This interactive workshop is designed to provide participants with a holistic understanding of anxiety and equip them with practical skills to effectively work with anxiety and anxiety disorders.

In the context of Psychosynthesis, anxiety disorders are viewed from two different perspectives. From one perspective, Psychosynthesis looks at anxiety disorder as a syndrome defined by its patterns and a set of symptoms. From another point of view, it considers anxiety disorder, in a broader context, as a symbol of an inner obstacle which obstructs one’s personal growth and Self-realization.

Through this comprehensive approach, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the root causes, various manifestations of anxiety disorder and learn evidence-based therapeutic interventions. The workshop will also provide practice and discussion opportunities, empowering participants to implement these skills in their clinical work.

The workshop will cover:

• Four primary forms of anxiety.

• The nature of anxiety and its somatic, cognitive, emotional, and behavioural components.

• The symbolic meaning of anxiety.

• Relationship between anxiety, anxiety disorders and depression.

• Two-step process in working with anxiety disorders.

• Therapeutic interventions, including CBT, mindfulness and Psychosynthesis techniques of dis-identification, subpersonalities, visualisation and guided imagery.

• How the Polyvagal theory and recent developments in neuroscience can help inform therapeutic work.

Who is this for?

The workshop is open to qualified counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, and other mental health practitioners, as well as students in psychotherapy training and those in their final year of PG Diploma counselling training.

If you have any accessibility needs or special requirements that you need assistance with, please email Kajal at events@ptrust.org.uk.

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of the workshop participants will:

  • Have a broad understanding of anxiety and anxiety disorders – their symptoms, symbolic meaning and the wisdom of anxiety.
  • Acquire practical skills and strategies for use in therapeutic practice – what helps, what is appropriate, and what may not be.
  • Gain knowledge to review your own relationship with anxiety.

What to expect?

This experiential training will take place online.

The workshop will feature various activities, including:

  • Experiential exercises and discussion of theoretical concepts.
  • Presentation of clinical examples.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to present their clinical work for discussion and peer learning.

Handouts will be provided before the workshop.

As an online event, the Zoom link will be sent via Eventbrite to all registrants closer to the workshop date. Once received, please log-in at the start time.

If you are interested in reading more about the topic ahead of the workshop Dragana kindly shared their Master of Arts in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy dissertation: What can psychosynthesis theory and clinical applications bring to psychotherapeutic work with anxiety and anxiety states?

The approach:

Psychosynthesis, as applied to psychotherapy, is a holistic approach to healing, growth, and transformation. It emphasises the importance of integrating all aspects of the human experience, including physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions, to help individuals achieve a greater sense of wholeness and self-realisation.
