A dear friend of the Psychosynthesis Trust shares their latest poetry collection. The collection is inspired by the changing of seasons in 2024, from Spring to Summer. All images were taken by the author. By reading this, may you find inspiration, harmony and opportunities for reflection.
Trails
Is it possible
that all the trials
and tribulations of life
are there for no other reason
than to wear us out to the point
that we start to look up for answers
instead of looking at each other?

The riches of experience
You do not suffer for nothing,
one sunny day you will forget your past
and your flower will open, you will look into its depths,
inhale its beautiful perfume and in the delicate veins of its petals
you will see every step you have ever made represented there,
every love you have ever lost and every love you have ever found,
every time you have fallen and risen again, every star in the night of life,
it will all be there, no longer imprisoned in time but ever present,
as fresh as the moment it happened, the riches of experience at your disposal.

Speak my name
Speak my name
and I will come, whether you know me
as Peace, Love or Healing, it makes no difference,
I answer to them all, just speak my name and I will come
to ease your spite, your suffering and your pain
just do not ask me to create these things,
this I cannot do.

Call and response
A response from God
doesn’t happen because you are special,
righteous or because God has chosen your side,
it’s automatic, you put your penny in the slot,
pull the drawer and there it is.
You just need the right intention,
if you want something that’s just for you
it probably won’t work, but if you want something that’s
for the good of us all and you really let your penny go,
then your prayers will be answered.

Perfection
The only thing you
can truly master in life
is the acceptance of your failures,
it may not be the mastery you were hoping for
but it comes pretty close to perfection.

The thief
I passed a post box on my walk today,
old red paint covered in bright lichen
and the warm sun bringing the colours to life,
as I raised my camera I thought to myself,
‘No picture, poem or praise
could ever capture this blessing’.
Then I released the shutter.

Angels of the deep
Sink with me now,
beneath the surface of this life
with all its difficulties and distractions,
into the depths where the strange creatures dwell,
luminous, beautiful and unfamiliar with the light of our world,
yet as we sink so we comprehend more clearly
the ancient language they speak,
a language of graceful movement, colour and light
that leads us on to the glittering caves where the treasures
of creation are stored, for while these angels
may know little of humankind they understand
the human soul and all we are heirs to.

Rain
It was raining
heavily this morning
so I took an umbrella with me on my walk
and the sound took me back sixty years or more
to childhood camping trips, curled up warm and dry
on an old army groundsheet, listening to the rain on the canvas
and feeling the strange blend of excitement,
fear and safety that comes from being so close
to the elements, so close to God.

A meeting of hearts
Bring your heart
and do not worry
if it is filled with sadness,
a sad heart is a good heart,
working as it should work
and sadness in your heart is better
than a mouth full of judgements
or a gun in your hand,
because sadness
is the means by which
hearts are made true,
able to see beyond the trials of life
to the opportunities it presents,
able to see light on the other
side of darkness.

Elijah
I stumble through this life
tripping up, falling over, walking into lamp posts,
upsetting people, getting hurt and shouting and squealing
and yet there’s something else in here, deep inside me,
something that’s always been here,
a steady eye that watches over, devoid of judgment
and when I am completely out of my depth
it covers me like a lover’s breath.

The very end
Find your path,
not just any path, your path,
then walk it, stray from it, limp along it,
rejoice in it but you’ll only know it was the right path
when it’s taken you to the source, and you’ll know it’s the source
because all the other paths, the ones you didn’t take,
arrive at the same source too, in the end they
all arrive at the same source,
but you won’t truly understand that
unless you walk your own path to the very end.

Advent
My beloved ones,
again the times are changing,
it is no longer your responsibility alone
to save the world, to do all the organising and convincing,
your responsibility is to enter the timeless peace of silence
and to be content with that, who would not be?
Into this peace I will slip without a ripple
and those who see will follow.
