We are so sad to bring you the news that Diana Whitmore died on Tuesday the 25th of August 2026 at 1.26pm. Her son was by her side, which would have been such a great source of comfort for Diana. She had been ill in hospital for a week with a brain aneurysm.
Diana was a remarkable woman in so many ways and a force of nature. She led a rich and interesting life, starting off as a hippy during her twenties.
We will hold a meditation next week on Friday 4th September at 6pm for trainers, students and friends who wish to join. If you would like to attend, please email support@ptrust.org.uk to receive the event details.
A very brief synopsis of her Psychosynthesis Trust dedication
- In her 20s, Diana moved to Italy and became a student and close associate of Roberto Assagioli, founder of psychosynthesis. She was with him when he died.
- This experience impacted her so profoundly that she dedicated the rest of her life to carrying forward his legacy first through decades as joint Chief Executive of the Psychosynthesis Trust
- Diana Whitmore, reignited the charitable purpose Assagioli set up in 1965, in 1980, establishing the psychosynthesis counselling and psychotherapy training that formed the base of the training offered today.
- The Trust was the second organisation in the UK to receive BACP accreditation in the 1980s, and the first to receive UKCP accreditation as a transpersonal training organisation in 1993.
- For twenty-five years she was Chairperson of the Trust (Co-Chair alongside Helen Sieroda for 10 years), her various roles included: Joint Chief Executive, Head of Professional Courses and a Trainer and (UKCP registered) Supervisor in psychosynthesis.
- A founding member of the Association for Accredited Psychospiritual Psychotherapists
- She is the author of two books, Psychosynthesis in Education: A Guide to the Joy of Learning and Psychosynthesis Counselling in Action.
- Her background includes didactic training with Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis. She trained in Humanistic Psychology (specialising in Gestalt) at the Esalen Institute, California and holds an MA in Confluent Education, University of California.
Diana said: “As a student of Roberto Assagioli in the period just preceding his death, I was moved by his mission to put the soul back into psychology, which led to my taking over the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust. The Trust was revitalised in honour of Assagioli’s vision that for we human beings to truly flourish and experience fulfilment from life, psychology needed to include the soul – the place in each of us where we find meaning and purpose and a deeper sense of well-being. I have been delighted to see the Trust flourish and grow to be a respected professional training programme”.
Work with Young People: Founder, Growing2gether and Teens and Toddlers
Diana innovated 2 other charities over the last two plus decades whose mission was explicitly around working with young people. This work was underpinned by her belief that every young person carries the seed of their own greatness — they simply need the right conditions to grow.
That belief became the foundation of Teens and Toddlers, which was established in around 2001 / 2, and it found perhaps its fullest expression in Growing2gether, which Diana established in 2016, in the Scottish Highlands.
This charity aims to give disengaged and at-risk young people the chance to become mentors, leaders, and forces for change in their own communities. The idea was born out of the work which her very dear friend, Laura Huxley, started. Laura said to Diana one day that she was afraid her work would disappear when she died and Diana promised to bring the work to the UK. Her initial intention was to do one project, but after seeing the impact of this work on young people, who mentored an equally ‘vulnerable’ young child, she was hooked and spent the next 2 decades establishing this work first in England and then in the Scottish Highlands
She is survived by her son and leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the work of the Psychosynthesis Trust and Growing2gether (CEO Gavin Morgan), alongside the countless lives they have changed and will go on to change.
The family has asked for privacy at this time. Further details regarding a memorial (probably in Findhorn) will be shared in due course.
