Mikes Smith

Study Tutor

Mikes Smith is an integrative therapist working in private practice in London, where he supports clients from all backgrounds, with a particular interest in life transitions, including grief, loss, breakups, redundancy, retirement, career change, and questions of identity and meaning. Alongside his clinical practice, Mikes teaches counselling skills and supports trainee therapists at The Psychosynthesis Trust.

Before qualifying as a therapist, Mikes worked at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, where he was the Trust’s Bereavement Officer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he supported hundreds of bereaved families navigating loss under unprecedented circumstances, while also helping hospital staff respond to the emotional demands of caring for patients during the crisis. He later became one of the country’s early Medical Examiner Officers, helping to establish and develop the role as part of a national transformation in the way deaths are reviewed and communicated with bereaved families.

Mikes has an MA in Philosophy, an MSc in Psychology and completed his postgraduate training in Psychosynthesis Counselling at The Psychosynthesis Trust. Alongside his academic studies, he has a degree in Circus Skills and Performing Arts, reflecting a longstanding interest in creativity, embodiment and human expression. Drawing on psychosynthesis, existential philosophy and relational approaches, he is interested in how periods of crisis and uncertainty can become opportunities for greater authenticity, meaning and personal transformation.

Having experienced the challenges and rewards of psychosynthesis training firsthand, Mikes is delighted to join the Trust’s teaching team and support students on their own unique learning journeys.
