Who is it for?
The workshop is open to those who are from both a psychosynthesis and transpersonal background.
Workshop purpose:
Learn more about the spiritual philosophies of Roberto Assagioli and Rabindranath Tagore, through Tagore’s poetic writings and Assagioli’s reflections on them.
Attendees will:
- Understand more about who Rabindranath Tagore was and Assagioli’s role during his visit to Italy in 1926.
- Reflect on the similarities and differences between the two men’s spiritual philosophies.
- Read and reflect on specific poems by Tagore which Assagioli himself reflected upon in two published articles.
- Gain a deeper understanding of the Transpersonal Self and other concepts through sharing insights with the larger group as a whole.
- An opportunity for soul nourishment.
The approach:
Psychosynthesis as applied to psychotherapy is a unique approach that combines both psychology and spirituality. It is a holistic process that helps the individual deal with patterns of behaviours which inhibit or prevent living life in meaningful and fulfilling ways.
This event specifically explores Tagore’s transpersonal approach in both his life and writings, as well as Assagioli’s understanding and appreciation of Tagore and his life endeavours.
What to expect:
The workshop will begin with Catherine Ann Lombard briefly presenting Rabindranath Tagore’s life and work, his literature, his visit to Italy in 1926 and his meeting with Assagioli.
This presentation also includes an overview of the spiritual philosophies of Tagore and Assagioli.
After time for Q&A, we will break up into smaller groups and share our thoughts on poems by Tagore that Assagioli reflected upon in his two published articles.
At the end, we will re-gather as a larger group and share whatever insights we might have gained.
Learning outcomes:
This event will help attendees:
- Understand the importance of Rabindranath Tagore’s life and writings from a psychosynthesis perspective.
- Gain insight into why Assagioli refers to Tagore as an example of someone who has completed the process of psychosynthesis and notes that Dante’s Divine Comedy and Tagore’s writings are both testimonies of superconscious exploration.
- Insights gained into Tagore’s poetry will help attendees to better understand the Higher Self, especially in relationship to our personal self.
